Teluma family

The "Teluma" concept covers a family of delicate botanical forms
constructed from the remnants of armaments, highlighting again the
conflict between the creativity & skill required for the design
& manufacture of weapons, and their ultimate destructive purpose.
The family's fake botanical names are derived from the latin 'telum'
(weapon, spear, missile)'.
These sculptures also incorporate an audio element: at rest, they are
silent; but wind movement causes their elements to collide gently,
creating a soothing ringing sound.
The "family" now consists of three designs:
- "Teluma calamus" - the original design based on a single large outer base-ring
- "Teluma congeminus" - two rings of "reeds"
- "Teluma tenubis" - a tall slender variation growing from a single smaller ring

This version's title is derived from the latin 'calamus', which means
'reed'.

(3 editions of a potential 10 have been made to date)
This piece was shown at the Royal Landscape Savill Garden Sculpture Exhibition, the Hidcote Manor Sculpture Trail for 2013, where it featured on the National Trust poster for the event, and at the North Wall Arts Centre, Oxford. It has also been seen at Romsey World of Water, Chedworth Roman Villa, Avebury Manor and Kiftsgate Court Gardens.
Teluma congeminus

This version has two rings of "reeds" growing from a base disc &
a smaller inner ring. It's title is derived from the latin verb
'congemino', which means to be doubled, or increased twofold.
Materials: brass, copper, bronze, aluminium, shell cases
Dimensions: 34" x 14" x 14" (87cm x 36cm x 36cm)

An edition of this piece has recently been constructed in 'CKD' ('completely knocked down' - i.e. disassembled) form, for an overseas client who wanted to reduce the shipping costs - see last thumbnail image.
This piece was shown at the "Sylvansmiths" exhibition, and also appeared at the Royal Landscape Savill Garden Sculpture Exhibition. It was also displayed as part of the Oxford Artweeks exhibition, and at The Elemental Sculpture Park.
Teluma tenubis

This version is taller than the other two, and grows only from a
small inner ring. It's title is derived from the latin 'tenuibis' or
'tenuis', meaning 'slender' or 'delicate'.

Dimensions: 42" x 15" x 14" (106cm x 38cm x 36cm)

This piece was displayed at the Hidcote Manor Sculpture Trail, and has also been shown at Romsey World of Water. It has most recently been seen at Showborough House.
