Teluma family

< previous work next work >

The "Teluma" concept covers a family of delicate botanical forms constructed from the remnants of armaments, highlighting again the conflict between the creativity & skill required for the design & manufacture of weapons, and their ultimate destructive purpose.
The family's fake botanical names are derived from the latin 'telum' (weapon, spear, missile)'.
These sculptures also incorporate an audio element: at rest, they are silent; but wind movement causes their elements to collide gently, creating a soothing ringing sound.

The "family" now consists of three designs:

  1. "Teluma calamus" - the original design based on a single large outer base-ring
  2. "Teluma congeminus" - two rings of "reeds"
  3. "Teluma tenubis" - a tall slender variation growing from a single smaller ring
